At Equipping Hope International, we don’t hide the fact that we are a Christian organization.  It’s not a label we add on top of our programs.  In fact, it’s the foundation underneath everything we do.

From the structure of our English and tailoring classes to the tone of our leadership and our long-term goals in Nyarugusu Refugee Camp, our commitment to Jesus Christ shapes both the why and the how of our mission.

Here’s what that means, and why we believe it matters more than ever.

1. We believe every person is made in the image of God

Our starting point isn’t need.  It’s worth.

Before a refugee is hungry, unemployed, or facing displacement, they are someone created in the image of God (Genesis 1:27).  That truth shapes how we see the people we serve.  And what we see are individuals with purpose, potential, and eternal value.

This belief anchors our work.  It keeps us from rushing toward solutions that don’t equip people.  It reminds us that even the smallest act of kindness has significance.  And it’s why our programs are designed not just to give support, but to recognize and develop the God-given gifts already present.

“So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them.”  Genesis 1:27

2. We are motivated by Christ’s example

We look to the life of Jesus as our model.  We try to model what He said and how He lived.

He saw the overlooked.  He ate with the marginalized.  He taught with patience.  He met physical needs without ignoring spiritual ones.

“The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve.” — Matthew 20:28

Our desire is to serve like Christ with compassion, with consistency, and with no strings attached.  We teach English.  We train tailors.  We regenerate agriculture.  But at the core, we serve because He served first.

3. We believe work and learning are acts of worship

The Bible teaches that whatever we do whether in word or deed should be done in the name of the Lord.  That includes sewing.  That includes bricklaying.  That includes memorizing English vocabulary. That includes planting seeds.

We don’t separate faith from action. We integrate it into every part of our programming:

        • In how we hire local instructors
        • In how we respond to challenges
        • In how we treat every student, teacher, and partner

“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” — Colossians 3:17

Whether a student becomes a tailor, a translator, or a teacher, we want them to know that their work matters.

4. We pursue justice because God does

God is not neutral about oppression.  Scripture is full of His concern for those who are vulnerable, displaced, and poor:

“Learn to do right; seek justice.  Defend the oppressed.  Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow.” — Isaiah 1:17

As a Christian nonprofit working in a refugee camp, we are committed to advocating for systems and solutions that reflect this heart by living out the call to love our neighbors both near and far.

5. We believe lasting change comes from the inside out

True transformation doesn’t just come through programs.  It comes through the renewal of the heart through the saving grace of Jesus Christ.   And while we’re proud of the practical tools we offer, we know they aren’t the whole story.

What changes a life is the love of Christ.

That’s why we build relationships.  That’s why we pray with our students.  That’s why our long-term dream isn’t just about what students can do, instead it’s about who they’re becoming.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” 2 Corinthians 5:17

We don’t require faith to receive services.  But we lead with faith in how we serve.

What This Means for You

If you support Equipping Hope International, you’re not just funding a nonprofit. You’re partnering with a Christ-centered mission that:

        • Believes in the potential of every person
        • Seeks to follow Jesus in both action and attitude
        • Integrates Scripture into the way we teach, lead, and grow

We’re here for the long haul.  Why?  Because God is.  And we’re committed to building a legacy of service that reflects His love.

With faith,

The Equipping Hope Team
